Lauren P. Raysor condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the political violence being carried out in Washington, D.C. today, January 6, 2021. “Our nation is built on the fundamental understanding that there shall always be a peaceful transfer of power, and that dissent should likewise be expressed peacefully,” Ms. Raysor said. “By violating this sacred element of the social contract, they have crossed a line that should never have been crossed.”
Ms. Raysor said she supports every American’s right to peacefully protest, but the violence demonstrated against America’s most treasured political institutions is not to be excused. She said she supports the rule of law, and calls for the investigation and prosecution of anyone who instigated or carried out these shameful acts. “Violence has no place in a peaceful and lawful society, and insurrection should never be tolerated,” she said.
