Tully and Winkelman, P.C. Recognizes October as National Special Needs Law Month

Wednesday, October 7, 2015

Melville, NY —Tully & Winkelman, P.C. wants to remind those with a disabled loved one that October is National Special Needs Law Month, and this is the month to make sure all of your loved one’s financial and health care needs are met to ensure they are protected.
During National Special Needs Law Month, members of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) contribute a great deal of time to helping people with disabilities and their families understand Special Needs Planning, and inform them of the kinds of resources available to them. Special Needs Planning often involves special needs trusts, care management, advocacy to preserve educational or civil rights, public benefits such as Social Security Income (SSI) and Medicaid, and other important issues.

This annual event is an opportunity for the attorneys who are members of NAELA to meet face-to-face with the members in their community to answer any questions regarding special needs law. Tully & Winkelman hosted a workshop on Saturday, October 3, 2015 for twenty families to help them address planning issues and the new ABLE accounts.

“Many individuals with disabilities will need assistance not only with their health but with their finances. Their parents and caregivers need to plan for the day when they will no longer be there to provide support and care. Special Needs Planning answers the question, ‘Who will take care of my loved one when I am gone?’” said Brian Andrew Tully, Partner, Tully & Winkelman, P.C. and a Certified Attorney with the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. “Family members should be involved to determine what is best for their loved one’s needs, and this month is dedicated to helping them learn about the resources that are available to them.”
