UNIONDALE, NEW YORK — Michele A. Pincus, a Partner with Sahn Ward Coschignano & Baker, PLLC, has announced that she has joined The Real Estate Institute at Stony Brook University as a Board Member. In her duties, she will help further the Institute’s mission of meeting the needs of the real estate community’s newest members by providing hands-on training, meaningful internships, networking opportunities and future scholarship and graduate programs.

For over 40 years, the Real Estate Institute has met the evolving needs of Long Island real estate professionals and of the industry they serve. Capitalizing on its affiliation with the School of Business at Stony Brook University and on the experience of its board of directors, the Institute’s members serve as respected spokespersons on contemporary issues and as a resource for professional career development through symposia, white papers, luncheons, course work and social media.

Ms. Pincus concentrates her practice in the areas of real estate, zoning, land use, commercial litigation, municipal law and employment law. Prior to joining the Firm, she was previously the Associate General Counsel for the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA). Before that, she was a Partner at Lazer, Aptheker, Rosella & Yedid, P.C. in Melville, New York, where she chaired the zoning and land use practice. Ms. Pincus also worked at a New York City-based law firm and also served as an Assistant Corporation Counsel with the New York City Law Department, where she represented the city in litigation and negotiation involving zoning issues, building code compliance, environmental regulation and landmark preservation.

Ms. Pincus has received many prestigious awards throughout her career. She was inducted into the Long Island Business News’ “Top 50 Influential Women” Hall of Fame after receiving the honor three times in 2004, 2006, and 2007. She has also received LIBN’s “40 Under 40” award in 2001, recognizing her as one of Long Island’s rising stars in the business community. In 2002, she received the Leadership Recognition Award from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society for her outstanding contributions to the business, civic, and cultural enhancement of Long Island.

She is currently a Board Member of the Women Economic Developers of Long Island (WEDLI), a group of top-level women executives, and served on its Board of Directors from 1998 to 2008, holding the position of President of the organization from 2004 to 2006.

She is a graduate of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia and the National Law Center of George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She is admitted to practice law in New York, Washington, D.C. and before the United States District Court for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York.

“I am pleased to become part of this prestigious institute,” Ms. Pincus said. “My new position with this group will give me the opportunity to share my legal expertise in the areas of real estate law and land use and zoning matters.”
